Stress Analysis

Stress Analysis constitutes the art of production of component integrity documentation, based on the principles of Strength of Materials and the Theory of Structures (that is, Equilibrium, Material Stress-Strain, and Compatibility of Displacements). The documentation so produced addresses strength and stiffness characteristics within a component during either design (initial sizing) or production (formal) phases.

Stress Analysis is concerned with the many possible sources of applied component loading and the environmental impact on material allowables. Internal component forces arise as a result of externally applied loads (primary and non-conservative) and from the effects of self-constraint (secondary and self-limiting). Stress Analysis respects the importance of identification of load paths, and the detail design of joints for both Proof (Serviceability) and Ultimate conditions.

The primary objective of Stress Analysis is to produce clear, traceable and independently checked calculations for a component, which not only demonstrate compliance with it's associated design specification but also reflect a least weight and cost effective solution.
